New digital clock that runs on lemons

November 29th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Gadgets

New applications of old known facts have helped scientists to develop a clock that runs on lemons only. Ana Gram is the name of the scientist who came up with the simple yet ingenious idea. The citrus clock shows how easy it is to save energy in this economic crisis we are facing.

The clock uses a zinc and copper plug mounted under the lemons, which oxidize because of the acidic content of lemon, thereby powering up the energy levels of the clock. Another upside of this clock is that it eliminates the usage of Alkaline batteries, a source of major environmental pollution.

It is really simple to use, you just cut up a lemon in half and put it on the plate. One lemon will power up the watch for a week before it dries up. When the lemon dries up the clock just shuts down and it will power up again once you use a fresh lemon on it.
